Best Kept Secret
Formerly of Kaizen and Le Petit Treehouse, Tri is a sushi chef of the highest quality who now has a place of his own. A hidden gem nestled on Laurier East, Tri Express makes up for its small size with the amazing quality and originality of its sushi. Expect unusual combinations of textures and flavours that will make other sushi seem bland by comparison. The sunny café-style sushi restaurant has three tables, a bar, and a laid-back atmosphere that makes for a relaxing and intimate meal.

Fresh Taste
You won’t forget the distinctive taste of Tri’s untraditional sushi. You’ll find melt-in-your-mouth raw fish combined with a selection of fresh vegetables and sometimes even fruit. The “favori du Tri,” for example, contains spiced fish and vegetables wrapped in a rice paper roll with a bit of crunch for extra texture. The innovative sushi rolls are delicate, light and fresh, using only high quality ingredients. Tri’s special mixture of lobster and caviar adds a divine touch to several of the rolls. If raw fish isn’t your thing, there’s also a selection of cooked fish on the menu.

Go for Adventure
If you’re adventurous, try ordering omakase, which means that you set the price and the chef chooses your menu at his discretion. You can ask for all raw or include some cooked fish. Moderately priced menus contain two to five courses. Generally this menu starts with several slices of exquisitely-marinated raw fish and is followed by a variety of rice paper rolls, makis, and nigiris.

Reserve Ahead or Take Out
Tri’s growing business and reputation makes for a crowd. Since the seating area is very small, it’s best to reserve ahead to avoid disappointment. You can also opt to take out and enjoy your succulent sushi in the comfort of your home. Tri Express does not have a liquor license, but try the delicious tea instead.
