Adopt a Pet
There are over five million dogs and seven million cats in the country. Many of these animals have comfortable and loving homes, but some do not. Every year nearly 24,000 abandoned animals, not just cats and dogs but also birds, rabbits, ferrets, gerbils, and many other animals, are brought to the SPCA’s emergency shelter for care. But, seeing as the SPCA relies solely on public support to keep running, there isn’t enough room to keep these little critters at the shelter forever. Therefore, the SPCA relies on community members to give them loving homes. Potential adopters can view the animals in the shelter.

Report Animal Abuse
The SPCA receives between 30 and 40 calls each and every day about animal abuse in the community. Its team of special constables routinely investigates animal cruelty and abuse complaints and checks up on places where animals are housed, such as puppy mills, pet shops, and animal pounds. If you observe an unhappy pet in your neighbourhood the best thing to do is to call the police or the SPCA’s complaint line at (514) 735-2711.

Caring for our Fury Friends
One of the major mandates of the SPCA is education. The SPCA is committed to educating community members about responsible pet ownership, as well as what to do if your pet is lost or you find a stray animal. The SPCA clinic neuters pets, de-worms, gives first vaccinations and will attend to the health problems of any pets adopted from the shelter as well as those living with the general public.
