Profile Last Updated: November 14, 2008
Opened in June 2008, Rumi Grill was intended to be the casual version of the award-winning Rumi Restaurant in Outremont. By offering the same traditional dishes and full service, however, the only resulting express element is the price. The menu consists of the culinary specialties of the ancient Silk Route - today’s Middle East and Southwest Asia. Start by sampling a homemade ginger juice and some appetizers. A basket of fresh, organic pita goes well with the mezes: baba eggplant, hummus, or labneh and zataar. The well-spiced portion of dhal red lentil soup is a warm delight.
Hearty, Wood-Grilled Brochettes
Rumi Grill’s dishes are well portioned and affordably priced. An open kitchen reveals a large wooden grill with a range of fresh brochettes: Safran (grilled chicken), Caravan (filet mignon), Shish (lamb), and Galilee (salmon). All are available in sandwiches, as plates, or by the half-kilogram. Vegetarian options include fresh falafel, made with squash, and a grilled vegetables selection. A range of salads and Rumi sauces (from mild to spicy) complements any main course.
Traditional, Welcoming Décor
The atmosphere at Rumi Grill is bright and inviting, incorparating large windows and a sampling of ancient Middle Eastern artwork, teacups, and soft traditional music. Guests are invited to read the selection of books on the Silk Route and the ancient poetry of Rumi. Both local and traditional desserts are served, including Afghan pudding and almond baklava. At Rumi Grill, local products blend with the inspirational hospitality of the people of the Silk Route.
