Hamburger fans in Montreal will tell you that La Paryse is a must. Located at the corner of Ontario and Sanguinet Streets since 1990, this restaurant attracts crowds of students during the day and night owls later on. It’s near UQAM and CEGEP du Vieux-Montreal, so La Paryse also offers a student discount.
Retro Style
La Paryse has a typically American snack-bar style. The dining room is divided in little sections, the furniture is retro, the tablecloths have red and white squares, and the atmosphere is truly enjoyable. The outside might not look like much, but the inside is well lit, clean, and very busy!
Mouth Watering Toppings
The menu at La Paryse mostly consists of burgers and fries. You’ll also find a few salads, some soups and sandwiches, but why forgo the chef’s specialty? La Paryse offers a wide variety of hamburgers, topped with your choice of tomatoes, bacon, sprouts, mozzarella, blue, and cream cheese—take your pick! Vegetarians have not been forgotten; there are a few tofu burgers on the menu.
A Secret Ingredient
The secret to La Paryse’s success is in the details: the attention with which the onions are grilled, the pickles are sliced and the Dijon-mayonnaise is stirred. Of course, the incredible size of the plates and the wonderful selection of beers and wines probably also had something to do with it!
