Copacabana is an old staple on the Main offering cheap drinks and good times. Situated below trendy Duluth Street, it features one of the best people-watching windows in the city, which opens in summer to allow the breeze in. This unique restaurant has managed to master the art of juxtaposition. Fusing the décor of pacific-inspired tropical scenery with the spicy and colorful menu of West-Indian delights, Copacabana is one of the most original restaurants in Montreal.
Out of India
Despite the restaurant’s tropical island décor, Copacabana’s menu is inspired by Indian cuisine. Offering various meals flavored with curry and other spicy accents, the dishes are full of diversity. Following in the Indian tradition of eating food from the land, many of the specialties are vegetable-based and are always served with rice. We advise you to try the salmon with its maple syrup sauce or the vermicelli makis. Other choices included dishes such as pad Thai and octopus linguini. Following your meal, you will enjoy spending some time at your table, sipping on a cocktail while enjoying a lively conversation.
Tropical Décor
Its tongue-in-cheek and kitschy décor consists of fake palm trees and a mural of a sandy beach that graces an entire wall of the bar. Catering mostly to journalists and local gradate students, the casual Copacabana is always abuzz with lively groups of friends and regular diners. Equipped with a pool table as well as three televisions with satellite cable for sports fans, this restaurant is nonetheless a relaxing dinner destination for solo customers looking to spend some time alone in a friendly environment.
