Located on the eastern tip of the island of Montreal at the meeting point of the Saint Lawrence Seaway and the Rivière-des-Prairies, the Parc Nature de la Pointe-aux-Prairies covers a total expanse of 261 hectares. Owned and operated by the Communauté Urbaine de Montreal, this natural reserve is one of nine parks run by the city and open to the general public. Featuring an array of different wildlife and plant life including over 176 different species of birds, as well as undulating fields, forests and marshes, the Parc Nature de la Pointe-aux-Prairies is a breath of fresh air on the outskirts of Montreal. Open all year-round, the park boasts various summer and winter activities that the entire family can enjoy.
Summer and Winter
During the summer months, the park offers a wide range of outdoor activities including cycling, bird-watching, picnicking and hiking. When the weather cools down, things at the Parc Nature de la Pointe-aux-Prairies really start to heat up with such winter activities as cross-country skiing, tobogganing, snowshoeing and hiking.
