Mont-Royal Park is a favourite destination for those looking to enjoy a breath of fresh air and unspoiled green space in the heart of our bustling city. First opened to the public in 1876, the famous park was designed by the renowned American landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, the same man responsible for giving the world the famed Central Park in New York City. Boasting a wide range of activities, services and recreational sports, Mont-Royal Park is the preferred outdoor destinations for Montrealers from all walks of life!
Panoramic Views and Challenging Bike Paths
Located adjacent to the peaceful tranquility of the Mont-Royal and Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemeteries, Mont-Royal Park offers visitors a wide range of outdoor activities to choose from including cycling, hiking, picnicking, paddle-boating, sledding, snowshoeing, skating and plain old lazing around! For serious cross country skiers, there’s 20 kilometres of trails to test out. While the Olmsted Road remains the most popular – and paved – way of accessing the mountain's summit, there are a wealth of hidden footpaths that wind their way through the forest just waiting to be discovered.
Grab a Bite on the Mountain
Boasting two chalets selling a variety of snack foods and drinks – one at the top, one at the bottom – a day at the park will definitely work up an appetite. Some of the park's best features include Beaver Lake – located in the centre of Mont-Royal and doubling as a refrigerated skating rink in the winter – as well as the Camilien Houde and Kondiaronk look-outs offering some of the most spectacular panoramic views of downtown Montreal.
