Canadian Treasures
The McCord is home to one of the finest historical collections in North America. Established in 1921 as one of the most important museums of Canadian history in the country, the McCord Museum remains a treasure trove of this nation's rich and glorious past. Having relocated three times since its inauguration, the museum is now located on Sherbrooke Street West in the former McGill Union building and houses more than 950,000 artifacts and documents showcasing the social, cultural, ethnographical and archaeological history of Canada from the 19th century to the present day. It possesses the most comprehensive collection of clothing made or worn in Canada; an extensive collection related to Aboriginal history and art; and the renowned Notman Photographic Archives.

Cultural Activities and Guided Tours
Workshops, lectures, guided tours and family activities encourage visitors to explore the Museum's collections. Whether you’re five or 95, there are always fun things to discover and do at the McCord Museum! Unless otherwise specified, all activities are bilingual and free with Museum admission.

David Ross McCord: Patron and Founder
An avid collector of Canadian heritage artifacts, the McCord Museum's patron and founder Mr. David Ross McCord wanted very much to establish a national museum of Canadian history in his hometown of Montreal. Boasting an array of paintings, drawings, sculptures, Native Indian artifacts, prints, historical documents, maps and period clothing, Mister McCord's dream became reality with the opening of the museum bearing his name on October 13, 1921. Featuring a series of travelling and temporary exhibitions, the McCord Museum offers Montrealers and tourists alike a glimpse into our shared national history.
