Point of Historical Significance
The Pointe-a-Calliere museum is located on a piece of land that was the site of the founding of the city of Montreal in 1642 by Father Vimont. What a great place to house an archaeological museum! The museum gets its name from a 17th century French colonial named Chevalier Louis-Hector Calliere who had a house on the very same piece of land in 1688.

When Montreal Was Born
The museum was officially opened to the public on May 17, 1992 in commemoration of the 350th anniversary of Montreal. Don't miss the permanent exhibit, "When Montreal Was Born." The tour route invites visitors to enjoy a range of moving experiences as they discover the very essence of Montreal, born over 360 years ago.

Montreal's Colourful History
The museum is divided into four sections. The magnificent triangular shaped Eperon Building, the beautiful outdoor Place Royale, the underground Archaeological Crypt and the Ancienne Douane Building. This museum is home to the remnants of Montreal's city walls, a warehouse, a customs house and an inn.

Family Activities
It is also home to thousands of artifacts, artworks and archaeological splendours showcasing the colourful history of Montreal! It hosts various temporary exhibitions from around the globe, and provides activities for the entire family and school groups to explore the past and make today special. Drop by for some historical fun.
