The feel of Old Montreal is quite European, though trendy, with a lively atmosphere. Marché de la Villette fits in perfectly with a feel that is somewhere between a friendly local butcher and a cozy French bistro. Meats and cheeses are chosen and prepared by a master butcher who makes interesting and original choices about the flavours he wishes to bring out of each cut. There is a sense of attempting perfection in the products he sells, but don't be fooled, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
Lunch Time
Take a seat at an intimate bistro table to order a plate overflowing with cultured meats and cheeses. As you enjoy your meal, take in the fabulous selection of pâtés, traditional smoked meats, sausages, preserves and pastries that line the walls and counters. This is one luncheon stop you won't be able to help but marvel at.
Having Fun
Walking in to Le Marché de la Villette, you will be inundated with sights and sounds, mostly of choice foods ready to be taken home. But the decor around the shop is something else entirely. You'll find chickens, pineapples that light up, chalkboards with colourful messages and friendly cows surrounding every inch of free space. Anywhere else it would seem out of place, but the infectious smiles of owners and patrons show that this is a business that doesn't take itself too seriously. The products are those of excellence, created in a lively atmosphere of fun and pleasure.
