The (German) Book
This small bookstore situated in close proximity to the German cultural centre specializes in new and used German language books as well as a selection of bilingual dictionaries. Its various titles are displayed amid comfortable armchairs and plush carpeting that will make shoppers feel like they're in a living room. The obscure, but vast variety of German reads makes this shop one of Montreal’s best-kept secrets in shopping.
For the Studious
In addition to new and second-hand books, browsers will find an entire shelf of well-preserved, first edition classics in German literature. Featuring such writers and philosophers as Kant, Hegel and Heidegger, as well as old complete sets of encyclopedias, atlases, Das Buch is a treasure of rare finds. Sets of hard cover German translations of Le Petit Prince, Asterix and Tintin are also on display throughout the shop. Even if they do not have a particular title or edition of German literature, they are happy to order books for individual customers.
A Wealth of Literature
Selections include books on literature, history, travel, youth literature, comic strips, antique books as well as German instruction titles that complement the Geothe Institute’s course reading requirements. This is a great place to visit if you speak German, but browsing can be somewhat difficult if you don't. However, Das Buch also offers a small selection of German dictionaries, bescherelles, grammar textbooks, and translation workbooks to aid the introductory German language student. Gute Lesung!
