Massillia is one-of-a-kind. In fact, it is the only Marseillaise bistro in Montreal! Although this city has several establishments that celebrate the cuisine of France’s diverse regions, the fact remains that Marseille’s bars have something special that sets them apart and that merit bringing the experience all the way this side of the Atlantic. Thus, you will even find a petanque (type of lawn bowling) court behind the bar.
Menu of Simplicity
On the menu, nothing too complicated: they mainly offer sandwiches (ham and cheese, ham and butter, etc…), homemade tapenades as well as various other side dishes perfect for accompanying a glass of Ricard or a cold beer. Patrons go mainly to watch the soccer and rugby games on three big screens that delight fans.
Games and Music
Massillia opened its doors in May 2006 and the venture has met with great success ever since. It can accommodate 80 people sitting down, but there are often over 300 passionate fans that squeeze next to the bar and in front of the big screens. The décor is very Provencal and the welcome always very warm. In addition, Massillia organizes karaoke nights every second Saturday and musicians regularly celebrate French music and song.
