Laika has been around since the late 1990’s and it’s been a place of cotemporary coolness ever since they opened the door. This hopping yet cozy restaurant and bar is named after the Russian space dog launched into orbit aboard Sputnik 2.
Many Moods
In the late morning, it's a place where lovers linger over cafe au lait, reluctant to go to work and have their night together be over. At lunch, hip business types come in for a delicious soup or panini and pore over the latest hard-to-find foreign magazine from the Point Vert next door, which is one of the best newsstands on the Plateau. Power lunchers indulging in one of the three-hour lunches for which Montreal is famous, drink red wine and smoke Gitanes.
Evenings at Laika
In the evening, that same crowd pops back in for a beverage after work, and it's a great place to people-watch through the huge picture window (although people walking by are just as apt to be peeking in—after all, this is one of the chicest spots in town!)
Nightspot
At night, Laika becomes a club/lounge, serving fancy beers and late-night snacks to the tunes of some of the city's hottest DJs. It's also a great spot for cruising, and if you're lucky, you might find yourself there the next morning, sharing a cafe au lait.
