When the sweet smell of cotton candy and the rumbling of roller coasters waft through the air, memories and desire come to life. Since it opened in 1967 as part of the World’s Fair, La Ronde has been a favourite summer destination for tourists and Montrealers alike.
Daredevils Rush To Line Up
As soon as they enter the amusement park’s front gate, daredevils rush to line up for their favourite rides. Screams of fear and delight can be heard from a distance as the Vampire roller coaster hangs its willing victims from the track above. The Cobra snakes through the air while passengers ride standing up and the harrowing Boomerang lives up to its name. Visitors to La Ronde cannot miss the rumbling roar of the famous Monster. The world’s highest double wooden roller coaster has lured thrill-seekers from around the globe since 1986. Marvel at the view as the train climbs 40 metres above the park. Scream as you dive towards the ground at speeds reaching 96 kilometres per hour! Finally, at 53 metres high, with speeds of up to 110 km/hour, the Goliath is the highest and fastest rollercoaster in Canada.
For The Tamer at Heart
For the tamer at heart are classic rides like Disco Ronde, the high-speed mini cars that spin to the musical hits of today and yesteryear. The Pitoune is a log ride that makes a splash without getting you too wet. The Pays de Ribambelle offers a wide variety of rides for children of all ages. An abundance of carnival games challenge you to win a stuffed bear for your kid or your sweetheart. The giant ferris wheel gives a spectacular view of Montreal’s skyline and at night you will be dazzled by the park’s twinkling lights.
Fireworks
Every June and July, the Montreal skyline bursts with colour and light. Countries compete with explosions set to music for the International Fireworks Competition. Thousands of people at La Ronde or crowded onto the Jacques-Cartier Bridge say “ooh” and “aah” to the impressive displays.
