Art and Artifacts
Tucked away in the multicultural Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood, is one of the most popular Chinese restaurants in town. Kam Shing’s reputation grows yearly as it appears on more and more “best of the city” lists. The restaurant is quiet until the rush starts, when it fills instantly and the sidewalk outside floods with those waiting for a table. This spot is well known by Asian cuisine lovers looking to enjoy a nice meal outside the perimeter of the busy Chinese district. Note that you can enjoy a kam shing meal at two other locations, one on côte des neiges and the other one in the west island.

Right before Your Eyes
One of the nicest things about Kam Shing is the variety of dishes and specialties present on the menu. Unlike other similar restaurants, it offers both Cantonese and Szechwan delicacies. On the Cantonese side, favourites include chicken in black bean sauce, lemon chicken, ginger chicken, ginger-garlic shrimp and salt and pepper jumbo shrimp. The Szechwan favourites include Szechwan shrimp, Hunan chicken and an extremely popular General Tao’s chicken.

Fierce Cocktails
On top of the large menu, Kam Shing is fully licensed, serving traditional beverages such as sake and Tsingtao beer. Its space is very versatile, and makes it a great place for a date, a family or large groups (although reservations are highly recommended for all of the above.) Since 1997, when area locals began warming the seats, Kam Shing has gone from the best kept secret to a local phenomenon. The only way to see what the fuss is all about is to head over there and see for yourself.
