A Piece of History
As if you were walking in a museum, Kalaë invites you to take a walk in time and history, through the pieces of furniture that are on display in its space. Most of the cupboards and tables are over 100 years old and come from different regions of China such as Zhejiang, Shanghai and Shandong. The owners, who are bona fide globetrotters, take the time to travel to all those places in order to ensure the authenticity of the rare pieces. Other accessories such as chairs, carafes and stools are imported from other African and Asian countries. Genuine as well as copied objects are sold in the little Plateau boutique.

The Art of Lacquer
Lacquer, a technique used to protect the furniture, is applied according to a 8,000-year-old Chinese tradition. According to Kalaé’s owners and to savvy antiquaries, Chinese artisans have relayed this tradition from generation to generation in a conscientious effort to conserve their products and to perpetrate their art. The woods used to build the pieces are usually from pines and elms, the latter giving them robustness and tints of red.
