Since its inception in 1965, Italmélodie has been delighting musicians and musician hopefuls alike with its impressive collection of instruments, sheet music, and musical equipment. Located in the heart of Little Italy, the store boasts a wide range of instruments from harmonicas to grand pianos to tiny, hand-held bongos. Each day, hundreds of music enthusiasts pass through the two-storey musical institution, eager to buy, sell, trade or rent first rate instruments of their choice.
Learning to Harmonize
Italmélodie is also known for its well-established music school where students can receive one-on-one instruction in guitar, bass, drums, voice, piano, violin, keyboard, sax, clarinet and even hand percussion. The school does not operate in sessions, so students can enroll at any time. Lessons are once weekly and last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. The minimum age is normally five years old, but teachers are willing to instruct younger children if they able to concentrate for the duration of the lesson. Students who do not own their own instrument may rent one from the store. The school on the second floor is also a great place to find postings for local bands looking for members.
Italmélodie is the perfect place to pick up that hard to find instrument, such as the didgeridoo (bamboo rain stick) or local brands of djembes, (small hand-held bongos) such as Moperc and Luka. Italmélodie quenches the musical thirst of those just at the beginning stages of their development to the most advanced musicians in the city.
