A Mega Store
With its three floors and numerous different sections, HMV offers an unbeatable selection of music including jazz, classical, alternative, rock, pop, hip-hop and industrial metal that meet the needs of even the most discriminating listener.
British Roots
The first HMV store was opened all the way back in 1921 in London, England by the famous British composer Sir Edward Elgar as the first music retailer to offer its customers listening booths, a feature that the chain continues to employ. Over the course of several decades, the HMV corporation grew into a monster of a retailer, opening its 50,000 square foot flagship store in London, England in 1986 and redefining the world of music retailers.
Strong Canadian Presence
By 1987, the first Canadian HMV store was unveiled in Mississauga, Ontario and the chain now boasts over 110 franchises in Canada, as well as an arsenal of stores throughout the U.K., Ireland, the U.S., Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Australia. One of the keys to HMV's success has been the chain's emphasis on customer satisfaction, an idea that has won them the "Music Retailer of the Year" award in Canada for 12 years running!
