Membership Has its Rewards
Located in one of the beautiful K annex buildings on Bishop Street, the Co-op Bookstore has been helping keep students out of textbook-related debt with its low prices on new and used books. Membership has its rewards, though one need not purchase a membership to shop at the store – nor even be a student. A minimal fee up front, however, entitles you to discounts on everything in store for life, in addition to granting you voting privileges at their yearly general meetings.

Giving the Gift of Solidarity
The co-op Bookstore is a solidarity co-op, which means that the workers and members all have a say in how the store should be run. Members can take part in meetings, volunteer at the store or simply sit back and enjoy their benefits every time they purchase books, school supplies or handmade artisan crafts. Although the store has political leanings towards community-based activism, it remains non-partisan and embraces a diversity of views from its members and workers. The store also tables at a variety of yearly book expos, including the Anarchist Bookfair and Expozine.

Not Just Books
The not-for-profit Concordia Community Solidarity Co-op Bookstore isn’t your average school bookstore. It was originally created by the Concordia Student Union, but is currently an independent bookstore operating on Concordia’s downtown Sir George Williams campus. While the Bookstore’s raison d’être is to sell books, they also sell a wide variety of artisan consignments made by Montrealers. Whether you’re looking for zines, buttons, knitted cell phone cosies or wallets made from tires, the Co-op has you covered, with new merchandise arriving all the time.
