Profile Last Updated: July 07, 2008
Coco Rico has been in operation since 1970, when its owners sought to offer locals something different in the way of cuisine. It was the first Portuguese rotisserie in the city. This family-owned establishment serves up savoury meat dishes highlighted by spice rubs typical of their native Portugal.
Barbecue Chicken, Portuguese Style
The restaurant is best known by far for its mouthwatering, juicy barbecue chicken, which is especially delicious accompanied by potatoes that have been roasted alongside the bird. The menu offers a variety of other flavourful specialties like rabbit, turkey, pork, lamb and ribs.
Take-Out Counter
Set up as a take-out counter, the vast majority of clients order their food to go, but there is also another counter with stools for about 15 customers if you prefer to enjoy your meal on the premises. Clients can create their own combination plates featuring a meat dish, potatoes and a choice of salads, such as macaroni, green and carrot. For a light bite on the run, there are also made-to-order sandwiches comprising fillings like chicken, pork and ham. Coco Rico also sells whole chickens as well as meats by the pound.
Speedy and Inexpensive
Boasting rapid service, quality food and fresh ingredients, the restaurant turns out several orders each day to people on the go wanting fast, authentic and tasty fare. Items are also quite affordable. A generous trio plate or a whole chicken easily costs under $10.

Tip: Coco Rico has been voted one of the best Portuguese restaurants by the Montreal Mirror more than once and it won’t hurt your budget either.
