History Lesson
When Montreal's historic Forum closed down, the city wept a collective tear for the end of an era. The home to 16 Montreal Canadians Stanley Cups and concerts by the likes of The Beatles, Sinatra and the Stones, is now an entertainment centre called the Pepsi Forum. History runs through this building’s veins, as faint reminders of its storied past are scattered throughout the gutted and refurbished complex. Centre ice (two giant Habs logos) has been recreated in the middle of the floor and original stands are scattered around, serving as benches. In front of the entrance on St. Catherine is the Quebec’s Walk-of-Fame, featuring Quebec royalty like Celine Dion and Maurice Richard.

Fun for Everyone
The inside of the new forum is giant, hollow neon coliseum of all things consumption, with all four floors connected via escalator. The building’s centrepiece and main draw is a 22-screen AMC theatre which consistently screens a surprising showcase of good independent cinema, mixed with your regular Hollywood fare. Another dominant presence in this complex is three-floors, with a fouth floor called the Forum Sports Bar, a combination restaurant, bowling alley and arcade, complete with rock-climbing wall. And just in case you’re all out of quarters at the arcade, luckily the Future Shop is just an escalator ride away, where you can play their Xbox 360 demos until your thumbs hurt.

Dinner and a Movie
The Pepsi Forum is a great place to go if you’re hungry. There is an immense, decorative Guido and Angelina’s serving reliable Italian food, as well as a Burgers and Benedicts restaurant, a tempting fast food joint. There’s also a gourmet bakery to cleanse the palette. And after dinner, if you’re not looking to end your night, you can catch an act at Ernie Butler’s Comedy Nest on the third floor. Boasting a line up of international comics, the Nest bills itself as Montreal’s premier comedy club.
