Home-Cooked Italian Delights
Don't be fooled by the ordinary white-brick facade of Café Via Dante, a café and trattoria duo tucked away in Montreal's Little Italy neighbourhood. Here, there's nothing ordinary about the delicious home-cooked Italian cuisine or the lively interior décor. The restaurant's beige walls, fitted with paintings, photographs and artwork, are complimented by its white tablecloths and wood-topped wine bar. An authentic-looking chalkboard displays the hand-written menu, while large windows provide views of Dante Park and a stunning church.

Classics and Regional Specialties
Dinner appetizers include mixed salads, portobello mushrooms with balsamic vinegar, eggplant purée with goat cheese and buffalo mozzarella topped with cherry tomatoes, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. For a main course, sample the homemade gnocchi with bolognese sauce and follow it up with oven-grilled rabbit and polenta (cornmeal) or Milanese veal with saffron risotto. Other delights include the lobster ravioli with rosé sauce, a market-fresh fish soup, and the risotto with porcini mushrooms. Café Via Dante also offers its diners a special signature dish, daily.

Limited Selection of Fine Wine
Quality over quantity is the philosophy of this kitchen, and at Café Via Dante the modest selection of meals are matched by a limited selection of well-priced wines. Waiters will gladly offer their dinner suggestions, and match them to their proper wines. Save room for dessert, as the homemade tiramisu might just bring your taste buds to Italian heaven.

Tuesday-Friday: The restaurant offers well-priced lunch specials, which include salad, soup and coffee.
