Stella Estrela offers patrons a lesson in Portuguese cuisine – or at least the pastries of Portugal, at any rate. With local hipsters and Portuguese immigrants mingling at the counter, there's plenty of cultural exchange happening here. Enjoy the tastes of the old country here in the new world, and experience a delicious change of pace from the typical French pâtisseries found throughout Montreal.
Stella Estrela is the place to go for authentic Portuguese pastries. From miniature cakes and natas (flaky tart-like pastries with a crème brulée type of custard centre) to meringues, cookies, candies and more, it's all here. Try their macaroons, sweet buns (filled with custard, chocolate, marzipan and nuts) or rum balls for a sugary snack. Their natas are a typical example of Portuguese pastry-making; light and fluffy with a creamy filling. Sample dozens of delicious items if you're in the mood for adventure, as everything is priced cheap and ready for consumption by hungry patrons.
Coffee and Sandwiches To Go
In addition to their pastries, Stella Estrela also offers coffee and sandwiches for sale. Small baguette sandwiches like the pao com choricour, featuring spicy sausages baked in, are sure to please the lunch crowd, and strong coffee is served from open 'til close. Stay and linger with a paper, or take your treats to go.
