Stepping into the dining room of Bayou-Brasil is akin to stepping out onto a lush, green terrace. String lights and hanging plants decorate the ceiling creating a soft glow. Fake parrots and stuffed alligators round out the decorations. Adding to the ambience is the selection of bossa nova, jazz, and samba music playing in the background. This intimate restaurant is perfect for groups of friends and family who want to share a good meal and conversation.
Brazilian and Cajun Cuisine
The cuisines of Brazil and Louisiana are flavourful and aromatic. For a Brazilian dinner, try the chicken with peanuts and coconut milk or the mariscada (mussels, shrimps, calamari, and fish in a tomato sauce). As for Cajun cuisine, jambalaya is the quintessential dish with its chicken, shrimp, and sausage cooked in a tomato sauce. For a more adventurous experience, try one of the restaurant’s alligator dishes. Bayou-Brasil offers customers the opportunity to try many of its specialties with the table d'hôte menu; the menu includes a choice of appetizer, main course, dessert, and tea or coffee. A separate take-out menu is also available for the ones who prefer eating at home.
Quench Your Thirst
Bayou-Brasil offers cocktails as well as a interesting wine list and house sangria. Many of the cocktails originate from Brazil and use cachaça, an alcohol made from sugarcane. For a little twist, try the caipirinha (cachaça and lime) or one of its derivatives made with coconut milk, mango, passion fruit, or pineapple juices.
