Cheap beer
First things first: Bar Dickson may not be the most imaginatively named bar (it's located on the corner of Hochelaga and—you guessed it—Dickson), but it definitely serves up cheap beer. Pitchers are less than five bucks a piece, so it's a great place to get drunk with some friends and maybe sing a little karakoe on Saturday nights. And isn't that, after all, what going to a bar is really all about.
Old-school vibe
The bar definitely has an old-school vibe to it, with lots of neon and signs that inform patrons that the floor isn't meant to be used as an ashtray. The bar also has a fairly impressive collection of beer bottles that may have been collected over the past few decades, and although the decor isn't much to look at, the overall feel is friendly.
Typical east end bar
The bar is a typical example of an east end Montreal dive bar, and certainly doesn't claim to be otherwise. It's unpretentious and the lone waitress has plenty of time to chat with the regulars, as well as shoot a few rounds of pool on slow nights. Still, you can't beat the prices, and apparently there's even a deal that if you can beat the high score in their electronic football game you win a free beer. Think of it as a challenge, as well as a blast from the past, and you're sure to find Bar Dickson charming in its own unique way.
