Respect for Life
Aux Vivres’s cuisine comes with a conscience—this restaurant was founded on the moral principle that humans should not eat meat or any other such animal products. From its humble beginnings in 1997 this little restaurant has shown that there is a market in this city for establishments that take a strong stand against pressing social and environmental issues. Moreover, while Aux Vivres set out to respect life in all its forms, it has done so without compromising on taste.

Organic Products
Attracting a varied clientele of animal rights activists, students on a shoestring budget and gourmands who know a good thing when they see it, Aux Vivres is known throughout the city for its eclectic vegetarian cuisine and its support of various environmental causes. Making use of seasonal organic vegetables, organic grains and local organic tofu and tempeh (a fermented soybean cake), the restaurant offers a varied menu of tasty dishes with influences from around the globe.

Creative Alternatives
Aux Vivres’s creative dishes keep everyone, vegetarians and meat-eaters alike, coming back. Try the Végélox, a vegan alternative to the classic lox and cream cheese. The “Poutine du Samurai” is a Japanese twist on a Quebecois favourite. A popular item is the BLT with coconut that tastes like real bacon. Other special items on the menu include a variety of tisanes, fresh juices and smoothies. The tasty menu, the vibrant décor of light woods, Formica tables and green walls and the friendly staff make this restaurant a favourite among Montrealers.
