Named after the lead character in the French film, Le Festin de Babette, the boutique opened with the goal of making culinary pleasures more accessible to the public. Among the offerings: foie gras (most popular around Christmastime), jars of plum brandy in fruit liqueur, refined honey, gourmet jams and spreads and fine imported oils and vinegars. The nougat, chocolate-covered coffee beans and European cookies are quite popular and the store has a growing range of organic goods, too.
Make Time for Tea
About 60 varieties of tea can be enjoyed in the cozy tea room. Relax with a cup of Darjeeling or an espresso while nibbling on a ginger florentine or a slice of orange or chestnut cake. The selection of over 10 creamy hot chocolate concoctions infused with cardamom, cinnamon and pepper are sure to warm you up during the winter. In the summer, cool off on the terrace with some homemade ice cream. Tempting flavours include pina colada, cinnamon, ginger-pear, café-Raphaël and the quintessential old-fashioned soft vanilla.
For Chocolate Lovers
A plethora of gourmet chocolate and confections is available, including those by world-renowned French chocolatier Michel Cluizel. You can treat yourself to a box or get all the ingredients, tools and molds needed to create your own chocolate delights at home.
Gift Ideas, Too
In addition to gastronomic treats, the boutique has decorative and practical items such as Japanese porcelain tea sets and vintage French-style signs. Au Festin de Babette also assembles gourmet gift baskets tailored to holidays or events, including weddings, baptisms, office meetings and Christmas.
